Should brace beagling establish a new scoring system or should we keep the present system?

Lets start a healthy discussion.  Would you approve of a new scoring system for determining field champions that would be as  as follows: 3 wins and 120 points or 4 wins and 90 points or 5 wins and 75 points?  Or are you pleased with the present sytem of three wins and 120 points?

    To All:

    My answer is absolutely, NO!!

Here is the logic that I will maintain till the end of my life: Our forefathers have established the standards for a field trial beagle many, many moons ago, and this is reflected in the AKC Rule book which sets the standards for a dog to complete its championship.

The real question is…why lower the bar? I realize, however, that everyone has an agenda. Some want to finish one champion in their lifetime, others want to make a stud dog appear great at any cost, and some folks wish to finish more champions than anyone else in the game. Those are all nice accolades!

So, by lowering the requirements to ensure more dogs complete their championship, does this help ensure any quality within Traditional Brace Beagling in the years to come?

I would like to see quality tested champions with true performance character, versus, champions that just meet the requirements. The AKC Rule Book does a great job providing the standards for all of us to use as a guide!

Yes our forfathers did set the standard for making a Field Champion. They had a lot more dogs back then all. We had more dogs in the 70.s.80′and even the 90. But what about now. The little males have to have atleast 8 to 10 wins and then get points to finish. Some of the other classes has the same problem. How do you get more dogs into the classes”Do you drop the entry fee or what? Do you change the standard on the wins and points or what? There has go to be something done. The gas is going up and people can’t travel as far as they used to to finish a dog.Soon all you are going to have is club members running in their lic. trail or some that live close by. There has to be something done to improve on finishing a champion. The Handlers are barely makeing it by on the road because of the gas. They have had to go up on the prices to handle a dog at other trials. Some can’t pay these prices. Now what do you do.You can’t take the food out of the handler’s mouth but also you can’t keep up the points sysytem that we have now on finishing a FD. Ch.We have got to get together and desides on just what is best for the sport and everyone that is beagling. Now I think that the 2 trials a year helps the clubs and beagling. That is one thing that is keeping the clubs afloat. So what is the answer going to be?

I would hope that the people who cast over 22,000 votes on this question on website would weigh in on this topic. Obviously some beaglers have deep rooted feelings on this subject. I am not for making any instant decisions one way or another, however we do need to look at this with an open mind. No one wants to cheapen the field champion title. There is a problem when it takes a good 13″ male 25 trials and two years to earn 120 points under the current system. It is now becoming commonplace for a 13″ male to finish with 6 or more wins. It will soon become impossible for a 13″ male to become a field champion at a young enough age to become a producer. It takes a good dog to win six license trials, can he live long enough to accumulate 120 points?

I think that the best short-term solution may be to combine the male classes together and combine the female classes together, or at least have the option to do so.

Since I originally responded to this question a week ago 4000 more votes have been recorded on the ” question’ portion of the website. I have know idea who has enough time to vote that many times in a week. Who ever is doing the voting should spend more time training their dogs and less time voting. This issue deserves our attention. I would appreciate hearing from more of you on this issue.
